Safety and equality in the workplace are essential to maintaining morale and productivity. Presently, there are various employment laws that aid in realizing that progressive work environment. For instance, the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) protects job seekers and employees from missing opportunities due to physical or mental disabilities. The law provides that employees hire or retain disabled employees, making a few accommodations (such as installing ramps or adjusting working schedules) to enable them to work effectively (US Department of Labor, n.d.). Meanwhile, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) is a policy that mandates employers not to discriminate against qualified job candidates due to socio-cultural diversity such as ethnicity, gender, and sexual identity. Thus, both ADA and EEO enhance employee safety by leveraging employers to be at the forefront of eliminating workplace incivility and promoting physical and mental health.

Next, the Equal Pay Act mandates that men and women should earn the same for similar jobs they perform. Thus, the law enhances fairness and ensures that everyone is equally motivated to keep working, innovate, or develop better workplace procedures. Hence, everyone wins when employers implement equal pay. Meanwhile, the Fair Labor Standards Act establishes laws that safeguard workers. For example, employers must abide by the law’s provisions for minimum wage, overtime, recordkeeping, and child labor (Fine, 2017). Thus, it ensures employees receive fair compensation and treatment for their work. Finally, the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) states that employers and employees safeguard everyone on the work premises from physical harm. Some provisions include protection from fire hazards, electrical shocks, and avoidable falls. Therefore, implementing these laws improves workplace dynamics and enhances fairness and physical and mental safety.
