This module focuses on the application of approaches learned in module one, taking a systems-based look at recent advances and controversies in small animal medicine.
The areas covered will include cardiology, respiratory diseases, neurology, endocrinology, urology and gastroenterology including hepatology and pancreatic diseases. The emphasis will be on taking an applied, case-based approach to learning guided by an awareness of the current literature. This module will also include a two-day in house practical session involving group discussion of cases.

This is a pass / fail module comprising several components including within trimester assessment and end of trimester assessment.

Learning Outcomes:

Having successfully completed this module, participants will be able to:

• Construct well reasoned plans for approaching the management of complex Small Animal Medicine (SAM) cases
• Explain their approach to cases in the context of current literature
• Accurately apply and interpret diagnostic tests to make a diagnosis
• Present reasoned arguments for their choice of management for a variety of clinical scenarios in SAM
• Review and appriase literature pertinent to SAM
• Make an evidence-based recommendation based on strategies explored in Module 1
• Constructively and objectively discuss case management and clinical reports with peers
• Identify, retrieve and objectively summarise the relevent literature for selected topics in SAM
