The objective of this module is to provide a dissertation of 5,000 words (excluding appendices) based on the student’s personal experience of the unique aspects of the equine industry and clinical work. This may include but is not confined to ethics, behaviour, performance or business. The dissertation should critically analyse the current situation and offer recommendations for the future. Students should be familiar with the journals, books and web-based resources that inform current research in their chosen topic. This module aims to facilitate an independent, proactive and reflective approach to learning; therefore success in the dissertation module indicates an ability to work independently. Students are expected to take the initiative and manage their own project.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:- Conduct a literature search using an appropriate range of information sources relevant to the veterinary aspects of equine sports medicine.- Critically review current relevant literature on a chosen topic.- Evaluate research findings in the context of existing relevant literature.- Conduct a sustained critical argument with precision and thoroughness.- Demonstrate rigor and clarity in writing the dissertation report by utilising appropriate scholarly discourse, critically and reflectively. – Produce a substantial piece of written work whose writing, presentation and adherence to scholarly conventions.
