Description of Project
(a) You should select a director who was active (directed more than 3 movies) during the time period of 1950 – 2000. In your term paper, give me the basic details of the director’s life and career. Identify some of the director’s most important films. What honors and awards did the director receive? Provide a sampling of critical opinion about the director’s work (i.e. film reviews or articles). View at least two films by your director and comment on them (one of them can be a film you would have watch previously for the class). Do not summarize any plots. Write about how this director used the following in these films: Editing (montage), Sound and Music, Cinematography, Special Camera Work (steady cam, hand held, optical effects), Special Effects (this can include stunt work).

Stephen King: Movie Director
Stephen King was born in the United States on 21 Oct. 1947. Stephen King has directed several movies and has also been a key figure as a person who has written numerous books that have been featured in movies. Some of the books that have been converted into movies were a crime, horror, and supernatural books. Stephen King’s father was Donald King, working as a merchant seaman in Portland, Maine. King’s mother was Nellie Ruth, who was divorced when King was two years old. King was raised by his mother under financial strain most of his life. He had one brother with whom they were very close. At the age of 11, King’s mother moved them to Durham, where his grandparents lived. Although King was raised as a Methodist, he lost his belief in organized religion when he was a teenager. King is married to Tabitha Spruce, and they have three children together.
Education and Career
Stephen King started his education at Durhan elementary. He later went to Lisbon Falls high school in 1966. Later on, King went to the University of Maine. During his time in school, Stephen King showed an interest in comics, horror, and cryptic readings. After graduating from the university, King made his first professional sale of a short story, The Glass Floor. He went on writing and directing movies in the following years, becoming famous for his gothic works. The novel Creepshow was one of the author’s first books in the movie industry in 1986. In 1985, he wrote the screenplay for Maximum Overdrive, an adaptation of “Trucks,” one of his short stories produced in 1986. Most of his works are a combination of horror films, drama, and action movies. Although some movies have not been very successful, most of the movie that King has directed has been a success. The director believes in producing films based on what is reflected in the society either in a fictional manner or in a drama genre.
During his career, Stephen King has been able to write more than 50 books, which have been sold worldwide and adopted as movies (King, 2). Some of his books have also been translated into other languages (. Stephen King has been instrumental in changing the movie industry because of his unique ways of directing movies. Some of King’s most common movies are “It,” directed in 2017, Stand by Me released in 1986, Creepshow Misery, and Maximum Overdrive. The movies have gained a lot of acclaim in the United States and other parts of the world (Luscombe 1). The movies are a combination of horror films, drama, and action movies. Although some movies have not been very successful, most of the movies that have been directed by King have been a success. The director believes in producing movies based on what is reflected in the society either in a fictional manner or in a drama genre.
Honors and Awards
Stephen King has been able to collect numerous awards during his time as a writer and a movie producer. The awards were given to the director based on his books and his works as a movie director. The awards were given to the director at different times from the 1960s to the 2000s. The awards are competitive, and the author has been given the awards because of the ingenious work that he has been able to do in his artistic creation. He won the World Fantasy Award of short fiction in 1982 and 1995 through titles of “The Man in the Black Suit” and “The Reach. The novel The Man in the Black Suit won an award in Henry Award. Most of his awards were for his novels that were later adopted in the film industry. In 2004, he won the World Fantasy Award of life achievement, and in 2007 winning the Edgar Grand Master Award. He has won many awards from Goodreads. In 2011, he won the award for Best Science Fiction from Goodreads Choice. In 2015, he was awarded by the former president Barack Obama the National Medal of Arts. Other awards include the American Library Association in 1990, the Anthony Award in 2014, Edgar awards for producing some of the best novels, and World fantasy awards for his lifetime work over the years, among others. He has won 104 awards in over 230 nominations.
