Social Consciousness Alignment
Social consciousness is the concept of advocating for the transformation, promotion of equity, and exhibition of environmental consciousness. Education is directly associated with developing an individual’s cognitive and social reality. Social consciousness education aims to increase an individual’s awareness of oneself and others about a given subject. This paper articulates the connection between the social consciousness general education outcome and the content discussed in class.
Summary/History of Issues
Different ideas were presented in the class discussion. These include the issue of religion and resilience and how they impact an individual’s daily life. This expounded to different religions, including Christianity and Buddhism. The discussion further overviewed the elements of these religions, giving a recapitulation on what Christianity and Buddhism are all about. Religion being the center of discussion, a concern was raised on whether religion is necessary for humanity.
Relation of Issues to General Outcome Education
The issues presented in class have a substantial relationship with the general education outcome. One of the main objectives in general education is to increase an individual’s understanding of the social aspects of others. This entails recognizing and appreciating the differences and similarities that are prevalent. General education thus creates a sense of understanding the contradictions present while identifying the possibility of integrating or transcending them to create a connection that will collectively coordinate the activities of these different groups (Kyler and Taff 417). General education thus increases the team’s adaptability to the dominant social system by creating a sense of acceptance and increasing individuals’ ability to critically and creatively deal with reality while recognizing the best way to participate in transformative initiatives.
The ideas presented in class were also similar to these general education outcomes. It tried to bring in the differences and similarities between Christianity and Buddhism and how these differences can be integrated to create an understanding of the two religions. It critiqued the different elements of these two religions by presenting constitutes of each religion. The main idea was to create a sense of acceptance of the overlying difference, which will increase one’s ability to effectively and efficiently relate with people from a different religion. It was also clear that the issues presented tried to question the key attachments that humanity places with religion and whether they are worthy.
Connecting Issues to the Chosen Outcome
By connecting the class issues to the chosen outcome, we might learn about the need to accommodate the existing differences for diverse groups. When one has gained significant knowledge on the social aspects of a different group, it becomes easier to respect and relate effectively to these groups. Christianity and Buddhism, for instance, are two religions with different beliefs and practices. The key issues raised in the class aimed to increase understanding of these differences. The social consciousness general education outcome of recognizing and increasing understanding of the social aspects of others will thus be achieved when Christians and Buddhists learn to live with each other in harmony by accepting these differences and adopting transformative interventions that will accommodate each group.
Social consciousness education increases individuals’ knowledge and understanding of diverse groups. This allows them to comprehend the processes and relations characterizing different groups. The main objective is to create a sense of acceptance and adaptability among diverse groups. For instance, social consciousness education for Christianity and Buddhism cultivates a dual ability to understand the differences and similarities between the two religions. This makes it possible for these groups to jointly develop and maintain the social ties of humanity regardless of the existing differences.
