Skill marketing is the art or practice of proactively shopping yourself to employers, tailored specifically to each position you apply for. This allows you to speak directly to the position you are applying for and why you are qualified for the role. This should be limited to no more than two paragraphs and can be used in your Cover Letter more formally.

What to include:

The position you are applying for, the skills that qualify you, including education, volunteer work, clinical rotations, civilian work experience, and both hard and soft skills.

I am writing this to apply for the position of mental health practitioner in your facility. I am a skilled mental health practitioner, having completed my undergraduate program in mental health. My qualifications for this work include but are not limited to my soft skills including healthy professional boundaries, compassion, empathy, information technology savvy, organization, active listening, strong ethics, the ability to build rapport with clients, a desire to serve others, and hard skills such as record keeping and proficiency in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (Rosen, et al.,2020). In addition to the qualification mentioned above, I have worked as a volunteer worker in mental health for one year. In my job as a volunteer worker, I had experience in handling intake evaluations and on-call rotations as well as providing one on one and group setting counseling. My services as a mental health volunteer worker have given me experience in using counseling techniques.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy are two of the ideas that I use as a practitioner. These two therapies are crucial in mental health (Awaritefe, 2020). People from all areas of life find it easy to get along with me, and I am skilled at putting them at ease. I have had a lot of positive feedback from previous clients who have referred me to their friends and colleagues. I am determined to transit my acquired and learned skills and experience into your facility. I am certain that I am the best person for the job and that I have the qualifications you want. For a face-to-face meeting, please do not hesitate to reach out to me as soon as possible. Thank you for your time and attention.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
