Reflection
Advanced nursing practice (ANP) entails applying a higher level of knowledge and skills in problem-solving and improvement of the quality of health care. The MSN course programs help the ANP students achieve a higher level of skills, knowledge and competence. In this course, through various assignments and practices, I have improved on personal knowledge and gained the essential competencies for the MSN level of nursing education. Through the assignments, I have learned how to establish the key sources of quality in making decisions concerning healthcare. According to Lehane et al. (2019), higher levels of nursing education calls for the use of evidence-based practices in making decisions, and a nurse practitioner should be able to evaluate the reliability, relevance and validity of sources of the evidence. I have analyzed various qualitative and quantitative sources, which has enhanced my capacity to rely on evidence-based practices in making quality and effective decisions.
The course program and assignments improved my skills and competence in embracing cultural diversity within the healthcare field while at the same time maintaining clinical professionalism. Every person has personal beliefs which are also tied to cultural beliefs. I have learned numerous strategies to increase how to reduce cross-cultural gaps and integrate cultural diversity with clinical practices for patient-centred care. The assignments and discussions on population health concepts have helped me learn about the processes of policymaking and developing health promotional interventions in improving the quality of health of the populations. Knowledge of the process of policy formulation and implementation enlightens me on my role of policy advocacy in improving healthcare quality as a nurse practitioner.
Apart from evidence-based practices, there are other guiding factors in the process of decision making, especially the nursing ethics and legal framework. The materials have provided knowledge on integrating ethics, law, and culture in making decisions. According to Ziefle (2018), higher levels of nursing education train the nurse practitioners to practice leadership which involves observation of the laws, high observance of ethics in practice, and being more accountable for decisions made. The tests on ethical accountability in decision making have enhanced my competence and achieved the projected outcome of the course.
