Reflection on the trends and their impact on patient outcomes
The Nurse Practitioner’s role has recognized the role of diverse team-based operations in the daily care provision. Different team members have had an opportunity to extend their practice based on the educational preparation, thus meeting each patient’s unique needs (Xue et al., 2017). This has significantly impacted patient outcomes by reducing nursing mistakes and re-hospitalization cases while increasing patient satisfaction with the care services provided.
The Nurse Practitioner role has also expanded significantly, and this is due to physician shortage being experienced in the healthcare. The nurse practitioner role has been an integral part of the care provision filling the gap existing due to physician shortage (Xue et al., 2017). Nurse practitioners are increasingly taking the lead in inpatient care, ensuring that patient needs and desires are addressed at all times. The expanding role of nurse practitioners has directly impacted the patient outcome by creating a framework where the patient’s needs and desires are addressed at all times. This has reduced delays being experienced in providing care, thus shortening the patient’s length of stay.
Holistic care is another major trend that has been experienced in the nurse practitioner role. Nurse practitioners have been drawing an array of skills, knowledge, and resources to provide more comprehensive care (Collins & Small, 2019). This aims at promoting wellness and preventing the occurrence of further infection. Holistic care by nurse practitioners has emphasized fitness and nutrition and a shift into standard medical practices. The education system for nurse practitioners is preparing them to offer optimal patient care throughout the patient lifespan. This trend has had a significant impact on patient outcomes by creating an enabling environment where nurse practitioners can identify and respond effectively to patients’ health conditions (Collins & Small, 2019). Holistic care has helped prevent infection while promoting overall wellness for the patients.
