After reviewing the strategic plan to implement the proposed interventions, objectives, outcomes, and required resources, I developed a process to evaluate my interventions if they were implemented. The objectives for this project include determining the type of support fathers with infants in neonatal intensive care units should receive and determining the challenges faced by NICU fathers whose babies are admitted for more than 7 days. After implementing the intervention, the expected outcomes are that the participant will report a changed perception of NICU care. They will report decreased feelings of sadness and, depression and NICU fathers will engage/participate more in the NICU care activities.
To evaluate the impact of the intervention, several aspects will be assessed. A Parental Stressor Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will be administered to the participants at the beginning of the study and the completion of the study (Noergaard et al., 2018). The difference between the two scale scores will be used to compare how the participants’ stressor’s perception has changed over the intervention period. Interviews with participants will be conducted to determine how the participants’ engagement in NICU activities has improved. Nurse Parents Support Tool (NPST) will be administered before and after the intervention; it will be used to determine the participants’ perception of the support provided by the nurses. This will determine whether the intervention was successful or not (LeDuff et al., 2020).
