This semester, I anticipate learning everything possible. This clinical rotation is different based on my prior clinical and work experience. I have always worked with adults and geriatrics. So, working with the pediatric population this semester would be fun. My plan to complete the 135 hours required this semester would be to attend clinical rotation twice to three times weekly with approximately 17 hours or more weekly. This clinical rotation aims to become more comfortable diagnosing and providing the appropriate treatment and improve my SOAP note abilities. Looking back to the previous clinical course, I have been very confident communicating and asking questions about the history of present illness without invading their privacy.

The goal for this rotation is to be able to diagnose patients and provide the best treatment plan. Still, I would work on my soap notes and assessment skills seems some pediatric patient cannot explain their symptoms. Clinicians depend on information given by guardians or parents. So, taking and diligently assessing those populations is essential in creating possible differential diagnoses based on their presented signs and symptoms with evidence-based practice guidelines.

Evidence-based practice can help support clinical decisions in a variety of ways. Study materials such as textbooks, peer-reviewed articles; are undoubtedly helpful and provide the most up-to-date information.

Using critically appraised and scientifically proven data, nurses can utilize evidence-based practice (EBP) to give high-quality health care to different populations. The delivery of evidence-based nursing care is linked to improved patient outcomes, ranging from reduced length of stay in the hospital to improved pain management and reduced rates of dialysis catheter infections (Chan et al., 2020). Examining, criticizing, and synthesizing the available research findings is part of applying the best evidence to our clinical decision-making. Our knowledge acquired from patient care experiences and our educational background goes into good clinical judgment. I intend to use evidence to support my clinical decision by educating patients regarding their disease and sharing clinical-based evidence to encourage and motivate them to stick to their care plans.

Clinical rotations in pediatric are aimed at ensuring that nurse practitioner students learn how to provide competent, preventive and effective care to children population. Throughout the rotation period the nurse practitioner is expected to explore several concepts such as growth, behavioral and developmental challenges that are commonly encountered while providing care to a pediatric population. The student will also learn how to develop treatment and disease management plans for the population. While preparing for a clinical rotation in pediatric units there are some resources that one can use to prepare such as books and other literature materials. An example of such books includes Pre-Test Pediatric, a book that nurses can use to test their knowledge about pediatrics; with more than 500 questions nurses will be able to rate their pediatric knowledge and focus on areas that they need to improve and be informed on common encounters with pediatric patients (Windsor University, 2019).

While providing care to these population evidence-based practice will be key to ensure delivery of quality services. Evidence-based practice involves the use of latest research findings together with the care providers clinical expertise and patient values to determine the best form of intervention for the patient. As nursing research continues to be conducted in more specific healthcare areas, the evidence obtained must be incorporated in practice for meaning development in the care services (Li et al., 2018). Best/latest evidence can be obtained from randomized controlled trials, reviews and meta-analysis, case studies and expert opinions about the subject. As a rotational nurse it will be important to read through the available research material and combine it with knowledge acquired in education to inform my decisions when taking care of the patients (Haskell et al., 2018). For example, evidence-based such as teach back method will be essential when providing care to the patients (Klingbeil, & Gibson, 2018).
