This module is designed to ensure that postgraduate research students are exposed to a range of advanced research closely allied to their chosen area of expertise and to ensure that they acquire the skills necessary to present their own research to a national / international audience. This self-directed module requires students to identify and attend a series of seminars / research presentations relevant to their research and to present their own research at a national or international conference(s) relevant to their PhD research programme. Students must submit a portfolio to the module co-ordinator detailing the range of seminars / research presentations attended over the course of the module. The portfolio will also include a report on the student’s conference presentation(s).

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Evaluate critically and to high standard current research in their chosen area.
2. Integrate, as appropriate, newly emerging research findings into their own research projects and reports.
3. Present their own research at national / international level.

Identification of a seminar/event relevant to your research
Attendance and engagement with the event
Preparation and delivery of a formal contribution to the event
Reflection on the contribution of the event to your research
