This module will introduce students from diverse non-psychology backgrounds to a range of key topics in psychology and behavioural science. It will highlight the contributions of established and emerging theoretical frameworks with the aim of applying psychological research to theories of decision making, and the application of these theories in predicting patterns of economic and social behaviour. It will be divided into 3 sections:
(i) The Psychological Basis of Judgment and Decision Making
(ii) Judgment and Decision Making in Context
(ii) Individual Differences and Social Influence
The topics covered will include aspects of cognitive, social, personality, and political psychology. The lecture content will reflect aspects of psychology that are central to the context of behavioural economics.
The key learning outcomes of this module:
– A common knowledge base of topics in psychological and behavioural science.
– An understanding of the role of psychological science at the individual, interpersonal and societal level.
– The ability to critically examine current knowledge in psychological and behavioural science.
– The ability to use psychological knowledge to inform theories of human behaviour and decision making.
