This module is designed to develop students’ ability to critically evaluate key developments in theory and research across major areas of psychology e.g. cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, social psychology, ethics and/or developmental psychology (note specific topics change from year to year). The module involves a flipped classroom design in which students will be given articles and/or other activities to complete before class and the seminars will then involve structured discussion of the topics.
On completion of this module:Students will be able to describe key theoretical developments in psychology and understand their application to a variety of research designs and methods; Students will be able to explain the implications for professional practice of a range of theoretical developments in psychology; Students will have developed their ability to critically analyse theory; Students will have developed their insight into the key ethical and methodological issues underpinning research and professional practice in psychology.
Indicative Module Content:
This module is designed to develop students’ ability to critically evaluate key developments in theory and research across major areas of psychology. Previous topics have included: Emotion, Attitudes towards ethnic minorities, Neurodevelopment, Politics and Identity, and False Memory. Specific topics change from year to year.
