Description
Go to https://speechandhearing.net/laboratory/wasp/ (Links to an external site.).

Record yourself by pressing record and saying the the syllables ‘pa pa pa’ repeatedly (note that usually clients also say pa-ta-ka repeatedly) for at least 5 seconds as fast as you can then press stop. Look at the middle 3 seconds of your speech sample and count the ‘peaks’ or each syllable that you see. You can zoom in and out to see more or less of your speech. In the below image, each arrow is pointing at a syllable. Once you have counted all the syllables for 3 seconds of speech then divide by 3 (or if you count 4 seconds of speech divide by 4, etc). Compare that with the adult norms on the file provided (see DDK rates file). For the assignment (1) provide a screen shot of your speech productions, your calculations, and whether you are in the average range or not. Then, read over this webpage https://www.encyclopedia.com/science/encyclopedias-almanacs-transcripts-and-maps/diadochokinetic-rate (Links to an external site.) and (2) name 3 disorders that might cause a client to have a decreased DDK rate and (3) DDK rates tell us how well clients can make rapid speech movements in different parts of the mouth, tell me what 3 oral landmarks are used in DDK testing – so where do we produce the /p/, /t/ and /k/ sounds (where are their places of articulation).
