My evidence-based topic for the capstone project is prevention of infections among surgical patients. Therefore, the main objective of this project will be to find the best practice that will significantly reduce patient infection while in the operating room. Between 5-10 percent of the patients acquire at least one hospital-acquired infection. Therefore, surgical patient infection is a crucial aspect of nursing practice that calls for evidence-based practice. Since this topic involves direct care dealing with the patients, it will be categorized as a community-based project. Leadership topics focus on leadership and management in health care institutions and how they affect a patient’s health care (Bhulani et al., 2020). Community topics also focus on healthcare professionals’ role directly in the community. In this topic, the emphasis is on delivering healthcare to the community members to enhance their health care results.

In this case, for the nurses to ensure that they prevent infections acquired in the surgical rooms, they will have to ensure that the surgical room has positive pressure air flows and special air filters to prevent unfiltered air from entering the operation room (Borchardt & Tzizik, 2018). In addition, they will also ensure they use antiseptic soap to scrub their arms and hands, and finally, they will use an antiseptic solution to clean the incision site. The aim of this will be to enhance care for the patients.
