Health, safety, nutrition, and fitness are topics you have been teaching to your kindergarten students through your mini-lessons; however, it is also beneficial to educate the families on the same topics. Therefore, your goal in this section is to design a wellness fair to educate the families on these topics so they can support their children at home more successfully.

In order for the fair to be effective, you will need community support to assist in providing educational booths in the areas of health, nutrition, safety, and fitness. For this part, you will create a 1,000-1,250 word plan outlining the wellness fair for your students’ families, including how you will involve the community. Include the following in your plan:

  • Agenda: Outline the timing for each activity during the event in a simple agenda format.
  • Welcome: Briefly describe how you will introduce the event to all participants.
  • Opening Activity: Plan an opening activity for the families and children that will explain the purpose of the wellness event with the community and promote shared values and expectations in creating a healthy, respectful, and challenging learning environment.
  • Community Resource Booths: Outline four community resource booths that will provide information on health, safety, nutrition, and fitness (one booth per topic). Include a community resource you will invite to represent the topic, 3-4 interesting and important statistics relating to the booth’s topic and young children, and a 50-100 word description of why that topic is important to the development of young children. Briefly describe how each booth will address the needs of children in the class both with and without exceptionalities, based on the “Class Profile.”
  • Closing Activity: Plan a closing activity for the families and children that employs strategies and opportunities to ensure future collaboration with families while pursuing the well-being of students in the areas of health, nutrition, safety, and fitness.
  • Rationale: Write a 250-500 word rationale explaining how the Wellness Fair supports collaboration between faculty, students, families, and the larger community. In addition, discuss why this collaboration is vital to promoting children’s development and learning, including children with exceptionalities.
  • Support your plan with 2-3 scholarly resources.

Part 2: Wellness Fair Event Plan

For the students to integrate much of the wellness concepts that they have learned in class, it is imperative to involve the community in the process. One thing that was realized in conjunction with the various learning directives is the fact that the students are profoundly affected by the homes and the community where they hail from. Failure to integrate the concepts that the students are taught to the community where they come can only lead to erosion of the already taught concepts. The community entails the parents of the children and the various policy makers in society. This wellness fair activity will also include vendors, and the whole event will take the nature of an interactive fair that will encourage the participants to have a better learning experience.

Registration: The whole community will be invited without any registration, but the vendors will be registered as not so many will be required. The registration of the vendors will occur in the form of confirmation of the attendance which they will do by sending the organization committee $50 for creation of space in the event .the rest of the community member will only notify of their plan to attend so that the planning of the event is made more accessible. To approximate the number of the community members planning to be in attendance, a Google doc will be circulated within Facebook, and other reliable media like WhatsApp through a link and the people planning to attend will indicate their name and contacts. The list will be printed, and the participants will use it for signing in into the event.

Promotion: Before the event, different promotional strategies were put into place to ensure that as many people as possible get the awareness of the wellness fair. The major promotion media within the school and the proximate community was the use of well designed flyers. The flyer was posted around the school and into the community and some on Facebook. Also, the organizing committee designed small cards for inviting people willing to participate. The event was also advertised in the local telecommunication media to maximize awareness levels.

Welcome: The welcoming of the visitors will occur in two phases, including the setting up of the various booths and refreshments. Both the vendors and the community participants will be welcomed by giving them the program of the day. The staff will assist the vendor in setting up their tents for the day’s activities. All the vendors will be expected to arrive before 10 am a notification that will be included in their invitation latter. The vendors will then be taken to the refreshment camp before joining the occasion. By 10 am the vendor booths should be ready with a representative of the vendors serving the participants as they arrive. The participant will arrive and first go for refreshment then comes back to the various tents for the opening f the wellness fair.

Opening Activity: The activity will open with a word of prayer followed by a speech from one of the members of the organizing committee chosen. The speaker will explain to the participant the purpose of the wellness fair. He will include the far that the children have been taught concerning various topics in nutrition, fitness, and safety. The speaker will also include the standards required in the children concerning these topics when they are both at home and school. Lastly, the speaker will summarize the occasion in the procedures and then introduce one of the teachers to take the members through a Yoga session that will mark the start of the day’s activities.

Community Resource Booths and Health Fair Activities: The event will have four community resource booths that will organize by the vendors. The four booths will tackle the following topics Hand-washing, Accident Prevention, Oral Health, and Allergies. Hand-washing- this booth will be concerned with the hand is noted that within the community, close to 40% of the act diseases are hygiene-related. Over the recent past, there has been many cases of diarrhea and stomach ache while a good number of children are treated for infectious parasites like tapeworm and ascariasis (Zillifro & Miller, 2018). This points to poor hand washing techniques. This booth will be operated by the area medical officer who will sensitize the parents on the need to set hand washing facilities in their homes. The hand washing will help the children to avoid infectious disease that is related to the hygiene of the hands.

Accident Prevention:  In the process of normal daily activities, children get hurt in one way or another. Some of the environmental hazards are so severe that they can end up gravely affecting the lives of the children (Fair, 2010). To avoid this, the children and the parents need sensitization on how to prevent and handle the injuries when they come. The American Red Cross society will manage this booth. The Red Cross personnel will equip both the parents and the student with the knowledge of evading danger and how to handle the injuries when they come. The parents will also be sensitized on home therapies that can provide adequate support in cases of accidents before a final healthcare destination is reached.

Oral Health: Oral health is one wide healthcare sphere than what many think. Health care entails booths the nutritional aspects and the hygiene portion. The children need to take good care of their teeth, and this starts at an early age (Care, 2018). The oral health booth will discuss with the parents on the nutritional requirements of strong and stable teeth while also addressing the various activities that the children have to keep up with to ensure strong and healthy teeth. The local dental health organization will run the tent. The booth will also demonstrate to the children the proper way of brushing the teeth so as not to harbor lots of plaques which may predispose them to teeth decay.

Allergies: Close to 60% of the individuals with allergy-related problems acquire than in the process of life, and this comes as a result of the various predispositions that make the system of the individuals hypersensitive to allergens (Van Deventer, Robert & Wright, 2016). To reduce these cases, there is a need to avoid allergens something that can only be done through proper sensitization and education of the people. The booth will be managed by the local health professional explaining the effects of allergies and therefore, how to avoid the allergies as we encounter them in our daily lives. The parent will be given allergy booklets containing the safe practices at home to ensure that the homestead is free from allergens.

Closing Activity: The event will close with a cleanup activity which will involve all the members who attended the activity. The cleanup will also involve the process of restoring the place where the event took place to its initial state. This was done exercise responsibility for environmental protection. Wellness activity is one of the most critical initiatives in promoting the internalization of facts learned in class. In most cases, learning takes place in a triangular format involving three different parties. The child’s development is vital to both the parents and the teachers, and this development ought to take place in all these two spheres. The importance of learning of the student at home is equally significant to the knowledge acquired at school. The wellness fair is an important activity to engage the parents in as they get to know what their children learn as a school which partly facilitates the continuum of learning when the students are at home. With the handbooks, the parents and guardians will find it easy to nature the children while at home such that the children achieve a complete learning circle. The universality of the hygiene knowledge will make it easy for the children to implement what is taught in school at home when the parents are aware of the concepts. It would be more difficult for the children to come up with the issues when the parents have no prior knowledge of them (Care, 2018).

Additionally, the students with special needs get a better avenue in such cases to have their issues sorted. The vendors, as a practice of promoting learning among the disabled learner, is by providing them with incentives that they can hardly come across in the typical day to the daily learning process. Such activities also give the children from low socioeconomic background to be identified and donated to some products which may not be within their homesteads. One of such products is the hand washing materials. In such a way, the learning environment remains balanced, and the diversity in the classroom is preserved. The activity will be blessings to many of the students regardless of their diversity status because apart from awarding opportunities to the students are likely to get better environments for putting what they have learned I school into good practice.
