NUR 2058 Researching for Evidence
For this written assignment, select one recent (within the past two years) evidence-based article from a peer reviewed nursing journal that describes a “best practice” in an area of nursing you are interested in. For example, if you would like to be a pediatric nurse, select an article that discusses a best practice in pediatric care.
Cite the article and provide a brief overview of how the results or findings were obtained. Then describe the “best practice.” Conclude your discussion by explaining whether you thought the research findings supported the conclusions and the best practice.
The chosen topic for best practice in critical care nursing is “handwashing.”
In critical care, an infection management department recently discovered that the rate of hospital transmitted infections is on the increase as never before, and the condition isn’t getting any better. To deal with the crisis, the critical care department’s whole staff came together. After so much deliberation and investigation, it has been determined that poor handwashing habits are the root of the problem. Cross contamination is most often caused by a lack of handwashing, said Hanif, A. (2019).
Following the results, the department began washing hands more often than ever and kept track of how many times anyone washed their hands when treating a patient or performing an operation. This new method was tested for a month and the results were evaluated. Surprisingly, the number of infections decreased from the previous month to 60%. The entire team was taken aback by the experience, and they immediately implemented the new amendment. Hamid (2019).
The evidence-based research on handwashing policies, on the other hand, increased quality health safety to a new degree.
It refers to as skin-to-skin contact, it could be a technique where newborn babies are kept chest-to-chest and skin-to-skin with a parent, more often their mother than their father .
