The Hepatology and Liver/Pancreas/Kidney Transplant Nursing Course is designed to provide the participant with the core nursing knowledge and skills required to safely, professionally and holistically care for patients across the spectrum of liver disease, and patients requiring liver and simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplant. On completion of the course, the participant will be able to demonstrate her/his role in relation to patient-centredness, patient safety, professional accountability and the need for effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team, patients, and their families.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the Course, the participant will be able to:
• Build on generalist nursing knowledge in order to discriminate between normal, variations of normal, and abnormal patient assessment findings, and appraise alterations in physiology and pathophysiology pertinent to patients in the Liver Unit
• Establish an in-depth understanding of the nursing management of patients across the spectrum of liver disease from diagnosis, treatment and palliation, to end of life care.
• Appraise the principles of prioritisation of care for patients requiring liver or simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation, including patient and family education.
• Focus on applying the principles of effective communication, patient safety and professional accountability in the provision of holistic, patient-centred care in the Liver Unit.
