NMHS32870 CPD in Cancer Care Nursing

Academic Year 2021/2022

The CPD in Cancer Nursing is designed to provide the participant with the core nursing skills required
to safely, professionally and holistically care for patients with cancer. On course completion, the
participant will be able to demonstrate her/his role in relation to patient-centeredness, patient
safety, professional accountability and the need for accurate communication with all members of the
multidisciplinary team, patients and their families.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Work safely and therapeutically with patients receiving diagnosis and undergoing diagnostic investigations for cancer
2. Perform accurate nursing assessment of the patient with cancer and develop an appropriate plan of care
3. Plan and manage effectively the care of patients receiving chemotherapy
4. Recognise and provide effective nursing care for patients experiencing oncology emergencies
5. Engage in the management of central venous access devices for the patient with cancer
6. Implement care safely and effectively for patients pre and post autologous transplant
7. Plan and manage effectively the patient receiving end of life nursing care
