The focus of this module is on the integration of community health nursing theory and public health sciences to provide a theoretical basis for aggregate level care in partnership with communities.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module you should be able to:

1.Discuss contemporary healthcare issues as they relate to primary healthcare both nationally and internationally.

2.Describe the organisation and delivery of healthcare in the community with particular emphasis on evidence-based practice.

3.Discuss the role of the nurse in developing appropriate healthcare interventions aimed at meeting the needs of individuals, families and communities within a primary healthcare context.

4.Examine core professional values (health promotion, prevention of illness, partnership, advocacy) as they relate to the care of communities and populations.

5.Examine social determinants of health of populations from national and international perspectives.

6.Identify a health problem that is impacting our health systems and based on best available evidence, devise a health promotion resource promoting health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.
