Health assessment entails both a health history and a complete physical examination. This module provides practitioners, who are working in practice, with the knowledge and skills required to perform a systematic health assessment to determine a patient’s health status, risk factors, and the need for health education as a basis for developing a plan of care. It will incorporate physical and psychological assessment and health history taking skills, which are utilised to evaluate the health status of a person. The module enables practitioners to critically analyse patient/client data and to prioritise problems. Students develop enhanced communication and clinical decision making skills.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the ability to perform a systematic health assessment, incorporating underlying
knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
2. Assess the patients’/clients’ physical, psychological and social needs.
3. Collect and accurately record the patients/clients current health status and document effectively,
to formulate individualised care.
