Access to this module is limited to nominees of the statutory health services. This module equips the candidate to deal with the assessment and management of situations to the standards required of a Registered Advanced Paramedic. The ability to gather basic clinical information by history taking and physical examination is a prerequisite to fulfilling the AP role, as is the ability to safely and effectively undertake a range of procedural interventions. The module involves clinical placements and tutorials and an intensive one week period of skills and scenario training.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, in adult patients, candidates will demonstrate competence in:

1. History taking and patient examination skills.
2. Effective use of all monitoring equipment and diagnostic adjuncts.
3. Developing differential and working diagnoses.
4. Interventional skills such as advanced airway interventions and parenteral access (IM, IV, IO).
5. Safe and effective therapeutic choices and interventions.
6. Appropriate use of Patient Care Records.
