This module forms part of the Master of Science in General Practice. The aim of this module is to explore the broad context in which general practice in Ireland currently operates and to understand how this context influences its configuration, roles and performance. This module will explore the history and evolution of general practice in Ireland, future trends in primary care, international models of primary care and general practice, society and health, the broader healthcare organisation, policy and funding.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the module students will be able to: 1. Discuss and evaluate differing models of general practice and primary care 2. Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of demography, economics, policy, cultural and other factors on the delivery of care in general practice and on the performance of health care systems 3. Discuss factors influencing the future of general practice and primary care and how possible future developments may impact patient care.
