This module provides a systematic understanding of psychoanalytic theory from classical to contemporary psychoanalysis. The work of Melanie Klein will be covered with focus on the processes of projection and projective identification and in relation to her theory of envy and reparation. There will be a systematic coverage of object relations theory with emphasis on Winnicott’s position in relation to the early maternal relationship and processes of holding, mirroring and play and the development of the true and false self. Self psychology will be studied with reference to Kernberg’s theories on borderline conditions and pathological narcissism.
