This is a core module in the Diploma in Military Medical Care and is open only to nominees of the Defence Forces.
The module aims to further develop the student’s knowledge of occupational medicine roles in the military workplace with an emphasis on preventative medicine in a military setting. The role of the Occupational Health Unit in the domestic and deployed settings, field hygiene & sanitation and their management will be introduced, in the context of current Health and Safety Legislation. Students will acquire a range of clinical skills which underpin occupational health practice in the military workplace.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this Module, students will have a thorough understanding of the role of military preventative medicine. Students will be capable of effectively addressing forward medical planning issues, pre-deployment considerations and functions of the Camp Hygiene & Sanitation team.
With appropriate medical oversight, students will demonstrate competence in conducting occupational health medical procedures, including 12 lead ECG, phlebotomy, blood pressure readings, urinalysis and standard vaccinations.
