MDCS10190 Clinical Placements 1 (Defence Forces)

This is a core module in the Diploma in Military Medical Care and is open only to nominees of the Defence Forces.
The module is designed to introduce serving military personnel to the roles of the Combat Medical Technician within the Defence Forces.
Students will undertake supervised clinical placements within a range of DF services including the Occupational Health Unit, the Central Medical Unit, individual unit medical clinics and St. Bricin’s Hospital. Placements within operational and readiness units will facilitate supervised experience of planning for and undertaking deployment CMT roles.
At the end of the clinical placement students will have demonstrated competence in the application of all occupational health skill sets introduced in earlier modules including anthrometry, audiometry, spirometry, visual field testing/colour vision testing, 12 lead ECG, phlebotomy, blood pressure readings, urinalysis and standard vaccinations.
Students will participate in the planning and preparation for deployment of a military unit and in routine screening and sick parade clinics.
Students will demonstrate familiarity with all aspects of Occupation Medical Unit record keeping.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with all ethical and professional requirements associated with military medical care.
The module allows the student to develop their practical skills in a controlled environment under the supervision of experienced medical staff.
