MDCS10180 Basic Clinical Sciences

This is a core module in the Diploma in Military Medical Care and is open only to nominees of the Defence Forces.
This module will provide the student with knowledge of normal and variant human anatomy and physiology relevant to the practice of a Combat Medical Technician (CMT). The core body systems (Nervous System, Cardiovascular System, Respiratory System, Gastrointestinal System, Skin and Musculoskeletal System, Genitourinary System, Endocrine System) will be covered with an emphasis on clinically relevant anatomy and physiology. The basic principles of pharmacology relevant to these systems will also be introduced.
On completion of this module students will:
1. List and describe the key anatomical components of the major body systems
2. List and describe the key physiological functions of the major body systems
3. Outline the key principles of pharmacodynamics relevant to EMT scope of practice
4. Outline the key principles of pharmacotherapeutics relevant to EMT scope of practice
