MDCS10140 Emergency Medical Technician 2 (MilMedCare 2)

This is a core module in the Diploma in Military Medical Care and is open only to nominees of the Defence Forces.
The purpose of this module is to provide clinical placements within which students can observe and gain supervised clinical experience in the clinical skills relevant to practice as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), as defined by the PHECC EMT Scope of Practice. Clinical placements are a core component of this module and proficiency in the content delivered in module EMT 1 is required.
The module will address key issues of professional practice and inter-professional care.
On completion of this module, students will be eligible to sit the National Qualification in Emergency Medical Technology (NQEMT) examination, administered by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC). Successful completion of this exam entitles the student to Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) registration at the level of EMT.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module, students will be competent in the practical skills needed to execute the duties of an EMT. This will be achieved through a series of supervised placements with the National Ambulance Service and in other clinical sites.
Students will demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional competence and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of relevant professional issues, patient safety and quality assurance in the context of their role as an EMT.
Students should also be competent in infection prevention and control methods.
