The factors that influence the development of prevention-oriented health policy include knowledge and innovation, external influences, social, political, and economic context (van de Goor et al., 2017).In contemporary times there has been a  lot of research related to various diseases and illnesses That has been conducted. Such research has therefore resulted in the development of knowledge and innovation. Thus, most knowledge pertaining to diseases and illnesses has indicated that prevention is the most effective remedy for reducing the impact of given diseases or illnesses in society. Knowledge and innovation help to support the development of prevention-oriented health policy by providing the necessary data and information to support such policies (van de Goor et al., 2017).

On the other hand, external influences such as non-governmental organizations play a significant role in developing prevention-oriented health policy. For instance, the American Diabetes Association is actively involved in lobbying the formulation of various policies to prevent the onset of diabetes across the population. The socio-political and economic context also plays a significant role in influencing the development of prevention-oriented health policy. Governments realize that the prevention of diseases has more economic, social, and political advantages compared to treating diseases. The government prefers prevention-oriented health policy because of social, political, and economic benefits (van de Goor et al., 2017).

The advanced practice nurse can be involved in the promotion of health and prevention of diseases on a national and global level by being involved in the development and enactment of prevention-oriented health policy. Through professional organizations, the advanced practice nurse can therefore bring forward policy proposals that promote health and prevent diseases that can be adopted on the national and global level. Active involvement of an advanced practice nurse in advocacy can also help promote health and prevent diseases on a national and global level (Turale & Kunaviktikul, 2019).
