Exploring Diversity

Demographics help individuals understand the size, behavior, and status of populations. The city I select in the state of Florida is Miami. Miami, officially City of Miami, is a coastal metropolis situated in southeastern Florida, US. With a population of 442,241 as of the 2020 census, it’s the 44th-largest city in the US and core of the nation’s eighth-large most metropolitan area.

According to demographics of Miami, the race includes whites only at 76.1 %, African Americans at 16.8 %, American Indian and Alaska Native alone at 0.2%, Asians at 1.1%, Hispanic or Latino at 72.7%, and whites alone at 11.3 % (United States Census Bureau n.d.). In 2019, the median household income of the city’s was $39,049, per capita income of $28804, and 23.4% of persons in poverty. The gender in this city comes in seventh with a male-to-female ratio of 1:2, females represented by a percentage of 50.5. Individuals under five years are 5.9 %, those under 18 years are 17.5 %, and those with 65 years and above at 16.5 percent. Spanning over 56 miles, the city of Miami has a population density of 13,286 individuals per square mile. In education, high school graduates or a high percentage of individuals aged 25 years and above stand at 78.0 percent. The Bachelor’s degree or high percent of individuals aged 25 years and above is 29.6% (United States Census Bureau n.d.). In terms of economy, the Sales Tax Rate for the city of Miami is 7.0%, and the Income Tax Rate for the city is 0.0%.

The race I select from this demographic is African Americans. The way in which I would tailor an educational program to these individuals is via compiling the goals and objectives (Dashwood 2019). This would include brainstorming the educational results, goals, and objectives, considering program goals, overall and often immeasurable accounts that guide the design. As some educational programs aim to improve knowledge skills and strategies, a goal would be supported by particular program objectives.  The objectives for enhancing literacy skills would involve learning to write the expositive essays, reading the selected book every week, and finally recording thinking of the goals and objectives.

One moral of African American population that would impact the program is their belief that God created the world and whole affairs of the world are under his control (Ephirim-Donkor 2021). Thus, society is God’s ordinance, and all institutions in society are religious. This belief would impact the program by helping recognize the dignity and integrity of human beings as creatures of God, thus practicing humanity and brotherhood, making the program a success. The value of unity and cooperation in the population would impact the program since, in mind, they know that one hand can’t lift a heavy load to the head. Also, the value of communalism and Individualism would be of impact. It is articulated in sharing common social life, the obligation to the community’s social good, appreciation of the mutual duties, care for others, solidarity, and interdependence.  Similarly, claims of individuality urge avoidance of risky Individualism perceived as possibly destructive of the human values and the whole sense and essence of human society.
