Elimination complexities affect the patients and their families socially, psychologically, and financially. Financially, the patients will be required to use a lot of money to treat the condition, causing the family members to dig deep into their pockets to meet healthcare needs. The illness may also stop the patient from going to work, and it can affect them economically. Psychologically the patient may have stress because of financial constraints and the inability to attend to their personal needs (Khandelwal et al., 2018). The disease complications and pain may also cause fear and depression both to the patient and the family members. The condition may also deprive the patient’s social needs by preventing them from attending social events due to hygiene issues. The patient will fear isolation and intimidation because of their condition. The nurse’s role to the patient is to provide them with data that they can use to improve their situation. For instance, the nurse should give the patient home management healthcare procedures and prescription information which they should use consistently to ensure a full recovery.
Nurses can offer emotional and psychological support through follow-up calls and encouraging them to commit to a hospital visit for checkups by the physicians. The nurse can also contribute to counseling if the patients need it and give motivational words to lift their spirits and give them hope. Motivating parents help them feel more vital than their condition, and they believe that they will recover regardless of the challenges through the healing process. Nurses can recommend psychiatrists to patients who might have severe psychological conditions to strengthen their ability to cope with the illness and the challenges that come with it.
