BMOL50060 Undergrad Stage4 Student Lab Supervision

Academic Year 2021/2022

This module will assess and reward postgraduate students in the UCD School of Biomolecular & Biomedical Science in their role training, supervising and mentoring final year undergraduate students in their lab.
Under the direction of the academic Principal Investigator, postgraduate students will assist the undergraduate student’s learning curve by demonstrating laboratory techniques, guiding him / her in the project research required throughout, mentoring them in dissertation milestones, etc.
Skills demonstrated and interactions with the student must be logged in a weekly journal input, which must be available at any time for audit by the lab PI or module coordinator, and submitted at the end of the trimester.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module, postgraduate students should gain an appreciation of the significant differences of supervising students in classroom / large lab class situations compared to individual supervision in a research laboratory.
Communication, supervision, and technique demonstration skills will be demonstrably improved in students who complete this module.
