Clinical practice guidelines also make it easy for healthcare practitioners to choose between the most effective evidence-based practices. The practice guideline for hand hygiene (HH) in healthcare settings is one of such clinical practice guidelines which is significantly explored in this paper.

Who were the guideline developers?

The practice guideline for HH in healthcare settings was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The main role of the CDC is to control the introduction and spread of infectious diseases in the US and also to improve disease prevention and control, health promotion, and environmental health activities. The practice guideline for hand hygiene development falls in the mandate of the CDC to help control and prevent diseases in different settings, including healthcare settings (CDC, 2002).

Were the developers of the guideline representative of key stakeholders in this specialty (inter-disciplinary)?

The developers of the practice guideline for HH in healthcare settings were representative of main stakeholders in the healthcare industry. This is because the developers included Doctor Julie L.
