The problem I have identified in my organization is violence against staff. Workplace violence is a common danger in the health care industry. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (n.d.) reveals that workplace violence is any threat or act of physical violence, intimidation, harassment, or other aggressive-disruptive behavior occurring at the worksite. Violence against the nurses and other Emergency Department (ED) workers is an extensive issue in my organization. Usually, ED nurse’s pact with clients who are drunk or under illness or pain influence, and also come across nervous visitors concerning their clients. In combination with the clients’ psychiatric comorbidities and substance abuse, this violence results in organizations overcrowding, ED nurse shortages, and long wait times. Violence against the ED staff affects the nurses, doctors, patient care associates, and the organization. It is a fact that violence against hospital workers affects the organizational and individual levels. This violence threatens employee safety and health and is related to reduced efficiency and care quality. For organizations, there’re severe financial costs as events of the violence lead to lost working days, improved staff turnover, work inability claims, and the high costs in savings to enhance the safety of the work environments. More violent attacks against the ED-based nurses may lead to bodily injuries and psychological consequences if this issue goes on. ED nurses will experience fear, anxiety, or hunger that will, in turn, reduce their levels of job satisfaction heightening their intention to quit their jobs.

According to Lafta & Falah (2019), violence against the ED nurses may be addressed through passing legislations that can make it compulsory for the health care facilities to run violence prevention-based programs safeguarding the nurses from violent clients. Legislation is the most exceptional advocacy form since there’re no lawful procedures to protect the nurses, and as they are confronted by the clients looking for medical care, usually they consider violence as part and puzzle of their job. Failure to have a violence prevention program can be connected with an increased danger of assault in the hospitals. Stronger legislation is essential to protect emergency nurses and mainly supports the idea that violence requires not to be measured as part of nurses’ profession.
